Danish Anti-war Movement

Greetings to the Peace Movement from a Danish Jail

By Lars Grenaa og Rune Eltard Sørensen

The two antiwar activists from Globale Rødder (Global Roots) who threw paint at the Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and foreign minister Per Stig Møller inside the Danish Parliament on March 18th , as they were about to announce active Danish participation in the illegal war on Iraq, have sent the following letter to the anti war movement. They have been held in prison since their arrests - so far until April 15th. They are charged according to a paragraph that can give up to 6 years in prison. The Prosecution tries to have them convicted according to the new anti-terror legislation according to another paragraph that can give 15 years imprisonment.

Danish Prime Minister Fogh Rasmussen

Dear Peace Friends

It warms our hearts to follow all your good work from within the jail.
The global permanent war that the US and its allies are now waging on Iraq and the rest of the world is terrible.
It is the world's biggest dictator and terrorist, who is making war to satisfy his own narrow strategic and economies interests.
Bush, Blair and Fogh have taken a stand against the peoples of the world and will from now on inflict big damage on everyone, who refuses to go along.

We are being charged with attacking 'democracy', but everyone has to ask himself:
Is it democracy to throw bombs on innocents civilians?
Is it democracy to defy the world opinion and make war for money and oil?
Is it democracy, when a small power elite, at any cost and in spite of all human logic and understanding, inflicts death, suffering and pain on the Iraqi people?

We consider our imprisonment to be politically motivated - and as an act of incriminating the Anti-War Movement.

But resistance towards an unfair and illegitimate war can never be criminal. On the contrary: it is criminal to kill civilians and throw bombs on a whole population.

By throwing blood red paint on the Danish prime minister and minister of foreign affairs we wanted to draw attention to the seriousness of the war.
To draw attention to the fact that war is not a computer game, but murder, bombs and destruction.
We feel it is important to send a signal to the peoples of the world, that our government stands alone in its support for the war.

Our action was not an assault on any person - but an assault on the Danish war participation.
We are been accused of violence, but it is not violence to throw paint - it is violence to throw bombs.
The non-violent civil disobedience is an important steep used directly against the war and the war-makers.

We hold our spirits high, despite our unjust and political imprisonment.
A true democracy had put Fogh and Møller behind the bars.
We hope, you will have big and successful demonstrations and we send not only our own warmest greetings for peace - but also from the majority of the inmates.

We ask you to sent letters to us - it helps keeping the loneliness of jail away.

The struggle for peace continues -
STOP THE WAR

Peace greetings from
