May Day Greetings
From A Danish Prison

By Lars Grenaa and Rune Eltard-Sørensen

Lars Grenaa and Rune Eltard-Sørensen have been held in custody in Vestre Prison in Copenhagen since March 18, the date they threw red paint at the Danish Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, symbolizing their bloody role in the war on Iraq. The custody of Lars and Rune has been repeatedly prolonged, and they will remain in prison, as political prisoners, until their trial begins on May 27.

May Day in front of the US Embassy, Copenhagen

Dear friends,

Having to celebrate May Day behind bars is a strange feeling, but we promise to do what we can so that the day
does not pass unnoticed here in Vestre Prison.

Today, our thoughts are with the thousands of political prisoners imprisoned by US imperialism all over the world, women and men whose only crime is doing their duty as human beings: to fight the inhuman.
Today, we are thinking of the women and men, who despite terror, torture and executions dare to think and dream about another world, the women and men, who across colour of skin, borders and gender are fighting together in a common global struggle for peace and freedom.

Our thoughts are with the hundreds of millions of people, who are fighting worldwide against war, poverty and repression, who despite hunger and misery are holding their heads high and are not giving up.

The global anti-imperialist movement, which has shown its strength and potential during the last year, has gained great victories. It has united peace-loving people all around the world. It has demonstrated that it is useful to fight, and that another world is both possible and necessary.
It has shown that freedom and democracy are created by the peoples themselves and from below, that bourgeois democracy is a blind and a fool’s cap, and that the struggle is waged in the streets.

Once and for all, the US and its allies have shown their true face to the peoples of the world. They have shown that their empty phrases are a mask of lies and deception, that their objectives are global hegemony and maximum profit, and that they will stop at nothing to reach these objectives.

The fact that the concrete looting war on Iraq was not stopped is not a defeat. The resistance in itself is a victory. But in order to reach the final victory, the movement must continue fighting.

Our imprisonment, which is one hundred percent political and just one out of hundreds of imprisonments of revolutionaries in Denmark and in the world, is the revenge of the Danish bourgeoisie against the opposition to its war fever. But it is also an attack on the whole peace movement and on everybody who opposes US imperialism.

Our imprisonment and future sentences are meant to frighten all of you who are continuing the struggle. It shall serve as a warning to everybody who refuses to give in and continues to fight despite the class court.

But as an old song goes:

"Then knock on the table, judge – and sentence whoever you want
But know that if you sentence one – more will come
We will carry the struggle onwards with greater unity
Your sentence can never break our solidarity"

The struggle against the repression of the state and for our freedom is also a struggle for the freedom of the movement and for the right of the people to revolt.
Remember, when injustice becomes justice, resistance becomes a duty!

We send all of you our warmest greetings and thoughts, and we look forward to come out and fight together with you again.

Peace between peoples – war between classes!
For a world without war, misery and hunger!
For the freedom of the peoples!
The struggle continues!

PEACE OUT!

Lars and Rune
