| To the Danish Prime Minister |
Do not shoot your traditions in the footAn Open letter
to the Danish Prime Minister Statsminister Dear Minister As a thriver and strugler for real democracy and freedom of
expresssion in Jordan, Denmark and Scandinavia at large were always at the center
of the model we aspire for. You are known to be a demcocratic peace loving people
who did not declare war even when real monstrous wars were at your doorstep; any
deviation from democratic heritage towards repressive ( later on fascist behaviour)
actions is not only shocking to your people but to us democracy seeking people
around the world. Your great heritage has come to be considered like a north pole
to hte compasses we use in our political In our part of the world, were autocracy and dictatorship thrive, the autocratic authorities are now mocking us; they say instead of learning democracy from the West, the West is taking lessons from our police state experiences. Your excellency, the treasure you are sitting on should be so dear to you and your people as to fight wars in its defence; when was Iraq close to being a danger to Denmark for you to go against the will of the majority of the world citizenry's wishes to war with Iraq, and even repress peace loving citizens in your country. It was the pride of your democracy one day that, a citizen might throw an egg on your leader or paint or any other non violent expression of feeling and opinion without being troden down by the police or by the legal machine of a police state. Keep that pride and defend it; stay in the respected position of cultural guidance to the opressed of the world; do not shoot your traditions in the foot; stop the prosecution of Lars Grenaa and Rune Eltard Sorensen Sincerely yours Laith Shubeilat - End - |
